Downhill skiing
Bad Mitterndorf was one of the first-ever skiing resorts in Austria, back in the days when you had to climb the mountain first before you could whiz down it on your skis! The village is one of the main places to stay for skiers wishing to enjoy the Tauplitzalm ski area. Tauplitzalm is famous within Austria as being a snow-sure area – a real insider-tip! Tauplitzalm offers a range of excellent slopes for intermediate skiers and beginners, as well as open spaces for magical deep-snow adventures for skiers and snowboarders.

Cross-county skiing
Bad Mitterndorf is one of the most-famous cross-country skiing resorts in Austria, with over 200 km of beautifully prepared skiing tracks. The tracks are prepared for both traditional and also skating-style, and as the valley is relatively flat, it’s a great place to learn the sport if you haven’t already tried it. Lessons and equipment hire are available from our local ski school. If you are an experienced cross-country skier, then you too will find plenty of challenging tracks in and around Bad Mitterndorf. Several national cross-country ski and biathlon teams regularly come to our village to train in the run-up to the winter season.

Tobogganing
Around the village and up on the Tauplitzalm there are numerous slopes that are also suitable for sliding down. For older children and adults there also are two prepared tobogganing tracks in Bad Mitterndorf, both of which are illuminated for evening fun!

Snowshoeing and walking
There are over 25 km of winter walking trails around Bad Mitterndorf, all of which are cleared and prepared.
Wearing snowshoes you can stroll across the wide open countryside which is an alpine meadow in the summer months.

Indoor tennis
During the snowy months of the year, we have an indoor sports centre with 3 tennis courts. These tennis courts can also be set up for playing badminton.

Sleigh rides
In Bad Mitterndorf it is possible to charter a horse-drawn sleigh for a romantic ride through the countryside or for an excursion to one of our excellent Hütten (log cabin restaurants).
